STEVEN HIRSCH ON ABC NIGHTLINE - Vivid founder/co-chairman Steven Hirsch was featured on an ABC Nightline program "Porn in the Digital Age: Why Pay?" on Thursday night. Reporters Neal Karlinsky and Arash Ghadishah interviewed a number of people at the 2010 AVN Entertainment Expo and Awards events last month in Las Vegas, where, it said, "the business side of porn is in plain view." One focus of the article was the availability of free porn on the Internet, and Steven was a principal source for this part of the segment. ABC reported: "But being at the forefront of Internet profit-making has made the industry vulnerable to losses from Internet piracy. 'It's a huge issue and it's something that the entire industry is looking at -- and not only the adult industry, but I think Hollywood is looking at it as well,' said Steven Hirsch, a top porn producer and founder of Vivid Entertainment. Hirsch, who has helped make porn mainstream, used to worry about protecting his right to make adult films. Now, he worries about protecting himself from piracy. 'We have two full-time people -- all they do is they're out there on the Internet looking for pirated content,' he said. 'When they find it, we send a notice, it comes down, then it goes back up and it's sort of a cat-and-mouse game.'" Nightline concluded, "Hirsch also is looking to technology and hoping digital watermarks will make pirated content easier to find and police. In the meantime, his game plan for survival in the digital world is to be everywhere. 'What we need to do is look at our business and... all the revenue streams so that we're not dependent on just DVD sales,' Hirsch said. 'There's DVD, there's TV, there's Internet, there's wireless, there's international, there's licensing. We need to look at it globally and say, OK, we need to be sure we get our piece of the pie in every one of those businesses.'"

VIVID ON G4 -- The G4 network interviewed Vivid Girl AJ Bailey and the stars of recent Vivid-distributed films Kelli McCarty and Shauna Sand-Lamas at the Adult Entertainment Expo for a special show to be aired on Valentine's Day. The network used footage from The AJ Bailey Experiment, Faithless and Shauna Sand Exposed. G4's coverage of AEE "and the world's biggest adult stars" begins at 10 p.m. and is hosted by Sasha Gray, who starred in the Vivid movie Throat: A Cautionary Tale.
