VIVID STUDIO INSIDER FOR NOVEMBER 18, 2011

STEVEN HIRSCH SUPPORT OF SASHA GREY CREATES HEADLINES – A controversy erupted after Sasha Grey read stories to school children in California recently. Vivid founder and Co-chairman Steven Hirsch wrote a supportive letter to the principal of the school that had invited Grey to read. His letter became its own news story, with TMZ breaking the story under the headline:  Porn Honcho: More Adult Film Stars Should Read to Kids! TMZ reproduced Steven’s letter to the principal of Emerson Elementary School, adding, “Hirsch thinks Sasha Grey is the porn version of Jackie Robinson ... hoping she's opened the door for other adult stars to read books to kids.”  TMZ said that in addition to “commending the school for allowing Grey to appear…Hirsch offers up two of his stars -- Chyna and Allie Haze -- as possible future volunteers.” The story of Steven’s letter to the school was picked up by websites around the world, from Lee Bailey’s Euro Web to ShockYa.com and from DailyMe.com to the popular Laist.com.

SUNNY LEONE SET FOR INDIA'S LEADING REALITY TV SHOW -- Vivid Girl Sunny Leone is set to make her biggest crossover yet on Monday, Nov. 21st when she becomes a contestant on "Bigg Boss 5," the wildly popular reality show from Endemol that is broadcast on the Aapka COLORS channel in India and seen by an estimated 28-million viewers. "Bigg Boss" follows the "Big Brother" format. Sunny will be one of the contestants that stay in a single house for about three months without any connection to the outside world. They are overseen by a mysterious person known as "Bigg Boss," whose presence in the house is known only through his voice. Every week the public gets to vote for their favorites via phone or text messages and the one with the least votes is evicted. Says Sunny, "I can't wait to meet everyone and see how things work out. I'm sure I'll love some of the other contestants, but if there is friction, I think my background in adult entertainment will help me not to hold back on anything." Sunny has been one of the most popular contract actresses with Vivid.  She was the first performer of Indian descent (her parents were born in the Indian state of Punjab) to be a Vivid Girl.  Movies from SunLust Pictures, Sunny's own successful production company, are distributed by exclusively by Vivid.

VIVID DEMANDS HTC AMERICA STOP USING ITS TRADEMARK -- Lawyers for Vivid have written a "cease and desist" letter to mobile phone maker HTC America for its use of the Vivid trademark in what it calls the “HTC Vivid” phone. HTC America is part of the publicly traded HTC Corporation, based in Taiwan. In a letter to HTC America chief executive Peter Chou, attorney Mark S. Hoffman, a partner in the Los Angeles firm of Labowe, Labowe & Hoffman, LLP, demanded the company stop using the Vivid name "in association with the marketing and sale of a wireless device that your company advertises can surf online websites and is 'built to entertain, with movies and shows' on a 4.5-inch screen." Mr. Hoffman said HTC America's use of the Vivid trademarks "creates the false impression that your company and your company's products are affiliated, connected, or associated with and or sanctioned by Vivid Entertainment." He added, "We believe it is possible that your company is not unaware of this conflict." Mr. Hoffman gave HTC America until Monday, November 21 to respond to his letter and cease using the Vivid trademark or "our client will have no alternative but to pursue all legal remedies." "For the past 27 years Vivid has worked hard to protect and build its brand.  We believe this is a clear infringement and will use all legal remedies available to protect our trademark," said Steven Hirsch, founder/co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment.  A copy of the letter is available at vivid.com.
